CURATOR'S NOTE
A study in structure and craftsmanship, the Chan Box Pleat Dress is crafted in contrasting hand-screen-printed cotton silk. Box pleats at the yoke and embroidered lace at the neckline lend sophistication, while raglan sleeves with bias binding create soft structure. A back tie-up adorned with handmade beaded tassels adds a delicate flourish. Every pleat, stitch, and embellishment reflects hours of meticulous labour, creating a piece where artistry and elegance flow in perfect harmony.
Techniques Used: Hand embroidered lace on machine. Handmade tassels.
Note: The occasional irregularity in color, shade and print are characteristic of the hand made process. Each and every piece is as individual and distinct as you are. They are not to be treated as defects.
THE DESIGNER STORY
Inspired by the Japanese ideology of wabi-sabi, referring to that which is imperfect, impermanent, aged, humble and authentic, Ahmev carries an aesthetic that embraces the value of the passing of time, the seasoning of time and the elements, the handmade and the simple. Wabi-sabi is a way of being open to emotions and of acceptance; a state of mind and a state of feeling. The philosophy of wabi sabi is embodied in the design process, being showcased in the finished designs through the subtle hues, natural materials, frayed edges and the visible stitching and asymmetry.
